Frank R. Murtha Jr., of New Derry, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Latrobe Area Hospital.

He was born in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Francis and Margaret (Kearns) Murtha.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by Latrobe Die Casting Co.

He was a member of St. Vincent Basilica.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #515, Frontier Club and St. Joseph Club, both of Latrobe, Lloydsville Sportsmen and Lloydsville Firemen's Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Walda; and two brothers, William and Joseph Murtha.

He is survived by his wife, Janice (Gaines) Murtha; three daughters, Mary Casteel and husband, David, of Latrobe, Theresa Noel and husband, Terry, of Latrobe, and Phyllis Knott and husband, Scott, of Latrobe; two sons, Frank R. Murtha III and wife, Shirley, of Latrobe, and John F. Murtha and wife, Rhonda, of Latrobe; 13 grandchildren, Wayne, Shawn, Kelly, Jessica, Patrick, Alec, Jacob, Jarrett, Nicholas, Hailee, Cassidee, Makenzee and Rylee, who is due in September of 2004; two brothers, the Rev. John F. Murtha, O.S.B., of St. Vincent Archabbey, and Harry T. Murtha and wife, Mary Ann, of Greensburg; a sister, Theresa Cox and husband, Eddie, of Greensburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Military services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home by American Legion Post #515 and VFW Post #3414. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict Church, Marguerite, with the Rev. John Murtha, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment in St. Vincent Cemetery.
